Obituary for Marina Berioza Ash (Berioza)

Marina Berioza Ash (Berioza)
Marina Berioza Ash, age 49 of Vacaville, California, died Saturday, September 9, 2017, while battling brain cancer at the UC Davis Hospice Care. She had quietly and bravely fought the disease since being diagnosed in 2011.

She was born June 20, 1968, in the agricultural village of Voznesenovskoye (Вознесеновское) , Stavopol Krai, Russia (former USSR) to the late Vasili Berioza and her surviving mother Valentina Berioza. Marina was a loving mom to her son Artem Kalashnikov of Moscow, Russia and step-son Kevin Ash of Cabot, Arkansas. She has been married to her surviving and beloved husband Gary Ash since 17 October 2005, where they met in the south of France the previous year. Love, trust, and respect for one another were the themes of her beautiful Christian relationship.

Marina’s love of the French language and the curiosity of the country’s culture motivated her from a young age to learn and embrace it. Eventually, she finished her primary studies and graduated. By 1991 Marina held a Masters of Arts degree in French and German Language Linguist. Her Language Didactic Doctorate in Theory & Methods of Teaching Foreign Languages was award in October of 2003 and recognized in the United States by Foreign Credentials Service of America in January 2007.

Utilizing her sharp mind for management and teaching, Marina worked for the Pyatigorsk State Linguistic University from 1995 until 2003, as a professor of the French language while also working as the Dean’s Administrative Manager for the French Language Department. She was privileged to attend the University of Caen-Basse, Normandy, France and earned a specialized training certificate for Teaching French as a Foreign Language. There she realized where her desire to go and improve her life. One duty Marina accomplished for the Dean was to coordinate the student summer study program which allowed students to work and immerse into the French wine industry of Provence. Eventually, Marina was able to go on a study tour and discovered the means to receive a French Work Visa and begin her new life.

Marina met her husband SMSgt (Ret) Gary Ash in France. She immigrated to the United States where her and her husband made a home near Little Rock AFB, AR. From 2007 to 2008, Marina accepted the positions of International Cultures and French 1 at the J.T. Robinson Middle School, Little Rock. Marina taught various subjects as a substitute teacher at the North Pulaski High School in Jacksonville, AR from 2008 to 2011. In the spring of 2011, Marina transferred to Travis AFB, CA with her husband. In October 2011, she was hired by the 60 Force Support Squadron Youth Programs to work with children of our active duty and reserves at Travis AFB. In August 2014, she resigned to study English. Marina and Gary traveled California on a regular basis and in 2015, returned to Paris with Gary and joined by her mom. They then traveled south to her beloved Provence to spend time with friends who are considered her extended family. As the disease that took Marina’s life continued its best fought the good fight. Finally, on 9 September 2017, Jesus accepted into the Kingdom of Heaven.
